Aside from a person willing to reference Jackie Chan films at will, I'm (Officially) a "Technical Engineer".
What does that mean? Well, effectively, I end up doing everything from manning the phones for first, second, and third line support calls. I make site visits, either emergency, routine, or otherwise planned.
Despite a preference towards networking, datacentre work, and generally not being support - This is where I've landed. The pay's not super, but there are benefits to where I work. "Work" being used in the loosest sense. Don't take that as meaning I'm a slacker, but instead that I work smart. I perform my tasks with a ruthless efficiency, if only so it means people stop asking me questions - I like being able to do work without people hassling me for things that.. Well, they should know themselves.
I enjoy my work, even if some afternoons I find myself with absolutely nothing to do, or even worse, server checks to do. Nothing is quite as dull as cycling through servers, checking the same things, over and over again.
Which, in effect, is what this Blog is for. To relieve the tedium of quiet afternoons, and to regale people with stories of the life of a member of Technical Support.
